From Senayan with Greed and Selfishness

The Assembly Building located in Senayan is a place where the Indonesian Parliament members work as representatives of their constituents. Becoming parliament members is a noble job because they are supposed to listen to their constituents' aspirations and willingness and then convey them to the government.  They have to get close to their voters to know what they really want or need. However, this is not the case of what is happening here in Indonesia. Let me show you some embarrassing facts about Indonesian Parliament members.

First is corruption case. After a long investigation by KPK, some Parliament Members here have become the suspects for corruption.  They were suspected to receive some travellers' cheques from one of the candidate of Governor of Bank of Indonesia. Many of these parliament members denied that they received the cheques. However, their denial doesn't stop the legal process of the case. As a result, some of them now have become the suspects and will face the trial soon. This is just one example of how greed has taken over their minds and made them forget their noble job. Of course, there are some other corruption cases and the list can be so long that I cannot write here one by one.

Next, Indonesia has been hit by a series of natural disasters lately such as tsunami in Mentawai and volcano eruption in Yogyakarta. Many people have become the victims of these disasters and needed help from their fellow countrymen. Instead of visiting and accompanying the victims of the disasters, some of the Parliament Members went to other countries in the name of "comparative study" or I should call it a "recreation". In this case,  it's obvious that they have lost their sense of crisis and turned a deaf ear to some criticisms asking them not to leave. Selfishness has blinded them from the deep sorrow faced by victims of disasters.

Realizing those facts about Indonesian Parliament Members, I can conclude that greed and selfishness have  got better of them. They think that what they have such as big salary and  a lot of facilities are not enough and they also don't care about the people that they represent. Those facts have shown the bad face of Indonesian Parliament Members.

Tottenham Hotspur: A Rising Star in the UEFA Champions League 2010 - 2011

In the last couple of years, Tottenham Hotspur were just a mediocre team in the English Premier League. They always finished at the mid of the table. Last year became the turning point of their history when they finished 4th at the table and qualified for a place in the UEFA Champions League.

Their performance in the European competition is excellent. They beat, FC Twente, the Dutch Champion by 4 - 1. They were held 2 - 2 by Werder Bremen in Bremen after leading 2 - 0. They were beaten by Inter Milan in San Siro by 4 - 3 but they could score three goals in the second half to reduce the deposit. They could beat Inter by 3 - 1 when they played home at White Hart Lane which automatically put them through to the next round of the UEFA Champions League.

I think their marvelous achievement in Europe is enhanced by some factors. First, They have great players in every department. Upfront, They have twin towers in the shapes of Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch. They can also play Jermain Defoe as an alternative player. Just behind the two strikers, there is Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder is in his top performance this season. Together with Rafael Van Der Vaart, he orchestrates all the Spurs' attacks from midfield. In the left flank, they have Gareth Bale, a talented young man who has amazing speed and in the right flank, they have Aaron Lenon, a tiny player that has quick feet. At the back, they have William Gallas, a veteran player and a central figure in defense. Next factor is their coach, Harry Redknapp. He is a brilliant coach who can turn a "usual" team like Spurs into a special team.

So, I must say that Spurs have become a rising star in the UEFA Champions League this season. I think many football lovers would love to see their remarkable performance in the next round of the UEFA Champions League 2010 - 2011.

Manchester City can be the next Chelsea.

Do you like watching English Premier League? If you do, you will notice a team that can break the tradition in the Premiership. The team that I am trying to tell you is Manchester City Football Club. In the last five years, there was nothing special about this club. The old Manchester City was a just a mediocre club that had never reached the top position in the Premiership. Now Manchester City is totally a different club. Just like Chelsea 5 or 6 years ago, Manchester City has changed into a stronger club. I think there are three factors that trigger the change.

First of all, this club has a huge amount of budget to buy some new great players. Eversince Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan took over the club from the previous owner, he has bought several top-class players, such as Carlos Tevez and David Silva, to build a new Manchester City. He also built a new stadium, City of Manchester, that can seat more supporters than the old stadium. He has ambition that his club can be on the top flight like Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea.

Next, this club has bought some really quality players. Supported by a huge amount of budget from the new owner, this club has signed some great players, such as Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and some others are still on the list to be brought to the City of Manchester stadium. With the new squad, the team's performance on the field is really boosted. Those new players' contributions are undoubtedly equal to their expensive prices.

Finally, The club has Roberto Mancini, a new manager behind the team. We cannot argue his quality as a coach. With his managerial skill, he brought Inter Milan to win Serie A championship title a few season ago. He has already shown what his team can do by winning several matches including some wins against big clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea.

In conclusion, supported by those three factors, Manchester City could be one of the teams in the top flight of the Premiership. They have just started what Chelsea did 5 or 6 years ago. Let's just wait and see what this team can do in the future.

Real Madrid 2010 - 2011: New Squad, New Hope

Real Madrid are one of the top soccer teams in Europe. They have won a lot of trophies in Europe and domestic competition. However, they failed to show their best performance in the last few years. In the Champions League competition, they are always out in the last 16. They are also outclassed by their rival, Barcelona, in the domestic competition, Spanish La Liga. To get better result for the next season competition, they have done a massive reform in their team.

Recently, they have just introduced the Special One, Jose Morinho as their new coach. We have already known his capacity and ability as a coach. He brought FC Porto to win the UEFA Champions League in 2004. The following year, he moved to Chelsea FC and brought Chelsea to win the English Premier League title in 2005 and 2006. His success did not stop as he became the coach of Internazionale a year after. This time, he brought Internazionale to win scudetto in 2009 and the UEFA Champions League in 2010. In short, With all of that long list of achievements, I think he is a perfect coach for a big team like Real Madrid.

Now, let's look at their squad. They have already got great players in their team such as Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. However, it seems that those star players are not enough so they try to sign more and more star players. So, Samy Khedira and Mesut Ozil that have become the part of German success in the World Cup are brought to Santiago Bernabeau. They also bought a new defender in a shape of Ricardo Carvalho. Mourinho has known him since he was a coach in Porto so it's not a surprise for me to see this fact.

In short, with a new coach and some new team personnel, I do hope that Real Madrid will be a much better team next season. One thing for sure that the new squad will bring a new hope for Real Madrid team and their supporters.

Quo vadis Law Enforcement in Indonesia?

I was born and grew up in Indonesia. As Indonesian, I am proud of my country but at the same time, I also feel embarrassed and disappointed. Indonesia is a country which is rich with diverse cultures and natural resources. Indonesian people are also well-known for their hospitality. So, I am really proud of Indonesia for those assets. On the other hand, I am also embarrassed and disappointed with my country in terms of law enforcement. I think law enforcement in Indonesia is dying now, waiting for its death. Why do I come up with that opinion? The following details are my reasons.

First, the government apparatus in law enforcement are considered so dirty that they have become the weakest part in the law enforcement itself. Corrupt government apparatus in this country are like a vicious cycle. It's hard to eradicate a bunch of these greedy and shameless creatures since they try to protect each other within their cycle. It's even worse if these pains in the neck come from law enforcement institutions like Polri or Kejaksaan Agung. We have seen many examples of these dirty cops and attorneys in the last few months. Yet, the authorities of the two institutions still turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to public opinion about the negative reputation of their institutions. They don't want to change and seem to be immune to constructive criticisms.

Next, poor leadership of our president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, is another factor that hampers law enforcement. He has a military background which normally can shape someone to be strict and decisive.  However, this doesn't seem to happen to him. He remains a character that  is always slow to react and has reservation in making any decisions. The conflict between Gen. Susno Duadji and some High Rank Officers in Polri is a clear example. Gen. Susno Duadji is a whistle blower revealing corruption in Taxation Office that involves some High Rank Officers in Polri. Instead of being protected, he is accused of receiving bribe from one of the defendants and is sent to jail. In one of his speeches, the president said he would be the first person in the front line to eradicate corruption. Yet, in Gen. Susno Duadji's case, he remains calm and doesn't take any necessary action toward this injustice.

In short, it is obvious that law enforcement in Indonesia is heading towards dead end. Unless there is a massive reform, law enforcement will remain poor and slowly dies. Well...We don't want it to happen, do we?

Spain: My analysis about the Champion of the World Cup 2010

We know that Spain are the Champion in the World Cup 2010. It's the first time in their soccer history to lift the most prestigious trophy. They have completed their achievement because before this, they have won the European Champion trophy. However, there is a question about their achievement. How can they become so superior in the last few years? Here is my analysis about this team. Let's look at this team from every department.

Let's start from the back. Under the cross bar, they have Iker Cassillas, the Real Madrid goal keeper. He is now in his top form. He has made a couple of saves during the tournament.  Next, they have Carlos Puyol and Gerrard Pique as the center back and Sergio Ramos  and Joan Capdevilla as full back. Carlos Puyol and Gerrard Pique are very solid defenders because they are from the same club, Barcelona. Sergio Ramos  and Joan Capdevilla are typically modern full back. They often overlap to help their teammates in attack but they return to their positions quickly when there is a counter attack.

Now let's look at their midfield. I think this is the strongest part of Spain. They have Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, the mastermind of all Spanish attacks. They orchestrate Spanish attack from  midfield. Iniesta is a small player, but he has a nimble footwork and low-center gravity. His control of the ball is excellent. Xavi also has the same quality as Iniesta and he can also pass the ball accurately to his teammate. They also have Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets as holding midfielders. They are the first players to stop the opponents' attack and they have done their job well.

Upfront, They have David Villa, a prolific goal scorer from Valencia. As a striker, he has a great goal-scoring instinct. He has quick feet and speed that enable him to beat any defender. In short, David Villa is a complete striker.

All in all, Spain deserve to win the World Cup 2010. They are a very good and solid team in every department. Congratulations, Spain!

Germany vs Spain: Spain deserve to win.

The second semifinal match between Germany and Spain was expected to be a thrilling match. Germany have a long tradition in the World Cup tournament and Spain are the recent European champion. It was a tight match with both teams trying to take initiatives in order to control the match. After a while, it was clear that Spain were more superior and they started to control the match. It was not a surprise when they won the match by a single goal. In my opinion, there are some reasons why Spain deserve to win.

First, they got hold of the midfield and looked more composed in that part of the pitch. Orchestrated by Xavi and Iniesta, Spain controlled the play during the match. They passed the ball quickly from one player to another. They rarely made a mistake in doing so. As a result, German players couldn't get a touch of the ball. They tried to win the ball but to no avail since Spanish players were very effective in passing the ball. In that match, It was clear that midfield belonged to Spain.

Next, the counter attack that has been the German trademark during the tournament did not work. They did it very well against Argentina or England. It did not happen against Spain because Spanish players were very disciplined. They returned to their half so quickly  when they lost possession that it did not give much space to German players to create goal-scoring chances. To make things worse, German players were not able to play one-two touch football and failed to show individual skills to open up resolute Spanish defense.

Then, Germany lost a key player in a shape of Thomas Mueller, the Bayern Munich striker. Before the match against Spain, Mueller has been an important player in the team. His collaboration with Klose and Podolski has created a solid trio in the German front line. Without Mueller's presence upfront, German attack was somewhat less menacing than the ones before. Piotr Trochowski who took over Mueller's place failed to carry out his role as Klose and Podolski's partners.

In brief, Spain really deserve to win the semifinal match. They controlled the midfield, were very disciplined and were a bit fortunate with Thomas Mueller's absence in the German team.

The Menacing Young German Team

Do you see anything different in the German national team in the World Cup 2010? That's right. They  consist of young players, yet they are menacing. So far until the quarterfinal, they have scored 13 goals in the tournament and they have only conceded 2 goals. It's a remarkable statistics, isn't it?. How can they become such a productive and menacing team? Now let's take a closer look into this team.

Let's begin from the back. The goalkeeper, Michael Neuer, is only 22 years old but his performance looks promising. The Schalke goalkeeper has shown that he deserves to be the right person under the crossbar.  In front of the goalkeeper, they have Arne Friedrich and Per Mertesacker as centerback and Phillip Lahm and Jerome Boateng as full back. Except Boateng, the others are senior and experienced players who have won a lot caps for the German national team. They are very solid at the back.

In midefield, they have young squad. Bastian Schweinsteiger is only 25 years old. Sami Khedira is only 23 years old and so is Mesut Ozil. Schweinsteiger and Khedira play very well as holding midfielders and Ozil functions as an attacking midfielder behind the three strikers. All of them are harworking players in midfiled.

Upfront, they have Thomas Mueller, a twenty-year-old striker from Bayern Munich, accompanied by two senior strikers, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski. This combination of young and senior players are lethal. They can work together very well and score many goals.

So, after looking at the profile of the German team, I think you've got the picture why this team consisting of young players can be so menacing to other teams in this tournament. They are solid at the back, strong in midfield and productive upfront. Consequently, I don't feel surprised if finally, this young German team become the Champion of the World Cup 2010.

The use of technology in soccer: Is it neccessary?

There was a controversy in the match between England vs Germany in the World Cup 2010. It happened in the 39th minute when Frank Lampard's shot hit the post and the ball bounced back on the ground. Frank Lampard smiled and raised his hands to celebrate the goal. However, the referee decided that there was no goal although from the video replay, it was clear that the ball has crossed the goal line when it bounced back. Based on this controversial decision, some people suggest the use of technology, in this case a camera, to decide whether a crucial moment like this is a goal or not. I personally agree with this idea and the reasons are as follows:

First, by using a technology, the referee will reap the benefit from it which means he can get a great help from the technology. When there is an important decision he has to make, he can look at the video replay for a few seconds before making a decision. He has to look at what really happened and then he can make a decision afterwards. So, it is clear that the referee is the person who will get the benefit from it.

Next, this technology will improve accuracy and minimize human error. Sometimes, referee as a human can also make a wrong decision when there is an incident on the pitch. The function of the video replay is to show what has really happened a few moments before. So, based on that, the referee can make accurate decisions during the match.

Finally, hopefully both teams are satisfied with the referee's decisions. During the video replay, the match will be stopped for a few seconds, so the officials of both teams can also watch what has really happened. All details in the incident will be shown so that the referee's decision will be fair ones. When the match ends, there will be no controversy anymore since both teams are quite satisfied with all referee's decisions.

In brief, I do agree with the idea of using technology in a soccer match because it will help the referee himself, improve accuracy and satisfy both teams during and after the match.

The only African team to progress to Quarterfinal of the World Cup 2010

Did you watch the soccer match between Ghana vs USA? If you did, you should have known which team won the match. You are right. It was Ghana who won the match by 2 - 1. With that result, Ghana is the only African team qualifying to the quarterfinal of the World Cup 2010. Perhaps, people might wonder what is so special about this African team that they can beat USA and qualify to the next round. In my opinion, there are two important factors which make them progress to the quarterfinal.

First, they have top class players in their team. Many of the Ghanaian players play their soccer in some  soccer clubs in Europe. Prince Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah are some of the Europe-based players in the team. Those players are regular key players in their respective clubs. So, having experience to play in the top flight of European Competition makes the Ghanaian players know how to play in a competitive tournament like World Cup.

Second, they apply good tactics and strategy to win the match. Ghanaian players can pass the ball quickly among their players. This is what they showed when they played against USA. Although they only played Gyan as a lone striker, they could score twice in that match. They could do it because they have hardworking midfielders like Boateng and Ayew that could also move forward quickly and score goals. In this case, they don't depend on the striker to score goals.

In conclusion, Ghana deserve to progress to the quarterfinal of the World Cup 2010. They have great, skillful players and they also apply good tactics and strategy to win the match.

Can South Korean team qualify to the next stage?

South Korean national team are one of the strongest teams in Asia. Being one of the strongest teams in Asia, so far they have participated in 8 World Cup tournaments. Their greatest achievement was when they went through to the semifinal stage in the World 2002. This year, they also participate in the World Cup. They are in a tough group together with Greece, Nigeria and Argentina. Consequently, they have to work hard to qualify to the next stage. However, I believe they are going to qualify to the next stage in this tournament.

First, their first performance against Greece shows that they deserve to qualify from group B. They won 2 - 0 over Greece in that match. They played well against the former European Champion. Their passing were accurate and they could play well as a team.

Next, They have a lot of star players playing in Europe. Park Ji Sung, Cha Du Ri and Lee Chung Yong are some Europe-based players in the South Korean squad. These players contribute a lot to their team's performance in this tournament.

In short, with the great performance they show and the stars players they have, I believe that South Korean national team will qualify to the next stage in the World Cup 2010.

Chelsea need regeneration

There is no doubt that Chelsea are one of the best soccer teams in the English Premier League. Chelsea have won a lot of trophies since they were built in 1905. They have a lot of top quality soccer players with great skills, such as Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry. However, many of the players  are in the twilight zone of their careers. Drogba is 32 years old and Lampard will also be 32 years old this June. Realizing those facts, I believe that Chelsea need regeneration in the personnel of their team.

First, they have to face a tight schedule for the next season. They won English Premier League last season which means that they have to participate in the Champions League Competition. They also have to play in the domestic competition to retain their title, not to mention some other local competitions like FA Cup and Carling Cup. So, they need young and fresh players to play in many competitions.

Next, veteran players are prone to injuries. Injuries have always become major threats for veteran players. Although those players have great skills and experience, they get injured easily when they are forced to play a lot of games in many competitions. When it really happens, it will be difficult for the team to compete without any quality reserved players.

So, knowing those facts about the team's personnel, I think Chelsea really need regeneration to make sure that they are ready to face the next season competitions.

Is Lionel Messi the New Maradona?

Lionel Messi is undoubtedly one of the most skillful and talented soccer players that Argentina has ever had. Having a small and short body, he is often compared to the Argentinian superstar legend, Diego Armando Maradona. Many people even think that he is the new Diego Maradona. In many aspects, he has a lot of things in common with Diego Maradona. Just like Maradona, Messi is a left-footed soccer player and he has quick feet and great speed. In spite of all similarities, I personally think that Lionel Messi is not the new Maradona. These are my reasons why I come up with that opinion.

First, Lionel Messi plays for one of the big soccer clubs in Europe, Barcelona FC. Having a lot of teammates with great talents and skills, He can boost his utmost potential. Xavi Hernandez, Dani Alves and Andres Iniesta are some of great names in the team. Together with them, he can perform well and score a lot goals. In short, he is a star among the stars. On the other hand, Maradona only played for SSC Napoli in Italy. Napoli was only a mediocre club when he arrived in 1984. However, He could bring the club to the top flight of Italian soccer and finally won scudetto, Italian soccer champion, twice in 1987 and 1990.

Next, Messi plays his soccer in Spain where defence is somewhat less solid than that in Italy. Spanish soccer focuses more on attack than defence. As a result, there is more space at the back that a player can exploit to create chances. So, for a quick and skillful player like Messi, Spanish  soccer is a heaven. On the contrary, Maradona played his soccer in Italy where he had to break through a solid defence called catenaccio, a tactical system with an emphasis on defence. This system makes it hard for strikers or midfielders to have space and score goals, but somehow Maradona could still find the gaps to pass the ball or score goals.

In short, Although Lionel Messi has a lot of similarities to Diego Maradona, he is not the new Maradona. At least, he still has a lot to prove that he is the successor of the superstar legend.

Indonesia can be as successful as China

Indonesia and China are two countries that have had a good relationship for a long time. However, China and Indonesia are very different. While China is a superior country, Indonesia is still a developing country. Nevertheless, I believe that someday Indonesia can be as successful as China and I have a few reasons to support that.

First of all, Indonesia has many natural resources and I think all of you know about that. The only thing the government should do is preventing other countries from taking advantage of our resources. Instead, Indonesian people can try to invest their money in a foreign company like what Trans Corp. do. They buy half of the Carrefour share and it makes them become the owner of Carrefour in Indonesia.

Second, many Indonesian people are proven genius and good at their fields, for example, Habibie. The only thing the government should do is giving them support and reward for their work. As a result, they can start to invest something that is useful for their country.

Third, Indonesia had such a glorious history that Indonesian people could learn something from it. They can use it as a motivation to make Indonesia become a successful country in the future.

Fourth, Indonesian government has already taken a step to get rid of corruption. Why don't we help the government to strengthen the law in our country? If Indonesia is free from corruption, I think the government can provide more facilities for their citizens and give more helps to the needy since the amount of money corrupt is decreasing.

To conclude, Indonesia can be as successful as China as long as the government and the people can take the right ways.

Money is not everything

In modern life, money is a powerful thing in the world because almost all the things we have are bought by money. Sometimes we forget about the other things in our life although they are also very important. Actually, there are many things more important than money.

First of all, our health is more important than money. Do you know how much money we have to spend if we go to hospital to cure our illness? It is expensive, right? So, our health is more important. If we are sick, we can't go to the mall for shopping or we can't travel to Singapore or Hongkong, right?

The second is our family. Sometimes money can change ourselves. If we have a lot of money, we will go to the mall for shopping and consequently, we will forget our family. This happens very often to a mother. A mother should take care of her children like feeding them or making a glass of milk every morning and evening. If she often goes to the mall, who will take care of her children? Maybe her children will get sick because there is no food at home. So, money can turn us into a bad person.

To conclude, there are many other things more important than money, such as our health and our family. We have to control ourselves if we have a lot of money and we should never think that money is everything.

Patience is golden

Patience is determination and perseverance. When we have tried our best but we failed, we have to be patient. We have to stay put and keep struggling with all that we have.

Patience is mental ability to control our attitude in order to avoid us from irrational and disadvantageous actions. Without patience, we will be easily trapped in a negative communication and have difficulty in having a good relationship.

Patience is ability to accept bitter facts in life. No matter what happens in our life, we should thank God. With all advancement in technology, humans try to anticipate failures, dangers or disasters but as a matter of fact, we cannot get hold of all aspects in life. There is "X" area which is totally beyond human control. It is the God's area with all its mystery.

Be careful when riding your motorbike in the rain.

Lately rain has poured down anywhere and anytime as it is now still the rainy season. People have already got used to it. They have to bring umbrellas or raincoats before they go out to work or to school. For those who ride motorbike, they have to be extra careful on the roads as the roads are very slippery. There were some accidents I witnessed when I rode my motorbike a few days ago.

A few days ago, when I was on my way to my English private student, I witnessed three motorbike accidents. The first one was on Jl. TB Simatupang, not far from Ps. Rebo intersection. At that time, a motorbike rider tried to change direction by taking a U-turn. Unlucky for him, he couldn't control his motorbike because the road was very slippery. His motorbike swerved and he fell down, but luckily he was safe and sound. There were no serious injuries, except a few scratches on his motorbike. Not long after, about 500 hundred meters from the first accident, I saw another accident. This time, both the motorbike and the rider swerved on the road as he tried to accelerate the speed. The rider quickly got up and some people tried to help him. Then the last accident happened on the same day when I was on my way home after teaching. A motorbike rider was screaming after falling from his motorbike while his motor bike lied not far from him. He looked really angry because a car had hit his motorbike from the back.

So, guys...be careful when you ride your motorbike in the rain because the roads become so slippery which makes it hard for you to control your motorbike.

SEO: Why are you so complicated?

Recently, I have been busy browsing the internet and scratching every page of books about internet. What for? There is only one correct answer, that is "Learning about SEO". I guess many bloggers are quite familiar with this term which stands for Search Engine Optimization. But for me, a newbie in the internet marketing business, this term is like an alien from outer space, strange and scary. Well... Let me tell you what I had to do to find out more about SEO.

First, I had to go to book stores almost everyday only to get any information about it. I looked up the rows of book shelves. When I saw a book related to it, I quickly opened it and read it. I didn't want to lose any single piece of information about it. I kept reading and reading until I understood the complicated codes of HTML, special codes in computer programming.

Next, I had to browse the internet almost every night for the same reason: to get any information about it. As soon as I got home from my job, I quickly turned on my computer and started googling any keywords and browsing websites that had something to do with it. Then, I made some important notes that I could learn later.
